A Relaxed Destination Wedding in Corsica

There are destination weddings where the location is simply a beautiful backdrop, and then there are weddings where the destination becomes part of the entire experience. Margot and Yacine’s wedding in Calvi, Corsica was very much the latter.
I had already had the pleasure of photographing their intimate civil wedding in Switzerland a couple of months earlier, so meeting them again in Corsica felt like picking up their story exactly where we had left off- just this time with sunshine and sand, the Mediterranean, a beach full of friends and family, and an entirely different kind of celebration.
Their approach to the day was wonderfully relaxed. Instead of spending the entire afternoon getting ready or following a packed wedding-day schedule, they spent it exactly where you would hope to be while in Corsica: on the beach.
A Relaxed Wedding Day on the Beach in Calvi
The wedding festivities didn't wait until the ceremony.
Margot and Yacine spent much of the day at a privatized beach club with their friends, swimming, relaxing, jet skiing and tubing in the Mediterranean. There was no pressure to turn every part of the day into a formal wedding moment. It simply felt like a brilliant summer day in Corsica with their favourite people.
From a photography perspective, this is exactly what I love about destination weddings. The photographs aren't only about the ceremony or the traditional milestones. They're also about everything surrounding them: where you are, who came with you, what the day actually felt like and all of those wonderfully unscripted moments that happen when people are simply enjoying themselves.
A destination wedding can be an opportunity to spend more time together rather than creating a more complicated schedule- and this day was a perfect example.

Getting Ready at Hôtel Mariana in Calvi
After their afternoon by the sea, Margot and Yacine headed back to Hôtel Mariana in Calvi to get ready.
Rather than spending hours staging getting-ready photographs, I documented the preparations as they unfolded before everyone made their way back toward the beach.

A Sunset Beach Wedding at Le Bout du Monde in Calvi
The ceremony quite literally started with a bang, with Yacine and his groomsmen making an unforgettable entrance accompanied by an epic pyrotechnic display.
The ceremony and evening celebration took place at Le Bout du Monde in Calvi, directly on the beach. After such a dramatic start, the setting itself took over. Margot and Yacine exchanged their vows as the sun began to lower, with the Mediterranean stretching out beside them and the Citadel of Calvi rising in the distance.
The sea, warm evening light, mountains and historic citadel created a backdrop that felt unmistakably Corsican- one of those places where it makes sense to simply let the landscape speak for itself.

Sunset Wedding Photos on the Beach in Calvi
One of the advantages of a beach wedding in Calvi is that you don't necessarily need to leave your celebration to find an incredible location for portraits. After the ceremony, we took a little time for photographs along the beach as the light softened over the Mediterranean.
In Calvi, that meant keeping things simple: Margot and Yacine, the beach, the last of the evening light and the Corsican landscape around them. Then it was back to their guests.

Dinner, Dancing and Fireworks on the Beach
Dinner and celebrations continued beside the sea before everyone moved fully into party mode. The evening eventually included dancing on the beach and fireworks over the water: a spectacular ending to a day that had begun in swimsuits and on jet skis.

What Is It Like to Have a Destination Wedding in Calvi, Corsica?
For couples dreaming of a destination wedding in France but wanting something a little different from Provence or the Côte d'Azur, Corsica offers an incredible combination of Mediterranean scenery, beaches, mountains and historic towns.
Calvi is particularly striking because so many of those elements exist within one place. A wedding can incorporate time at the beach, views across the bay, the historic Citadel of Calvi and an evening celebration beside the Mediterranean without the day feeling like a series of elaborate location changes.
For couples who value experience, atmosphere and time with their guests, that can be one of the greatest advantages of choosing a destination wedding.

Destination Wedding Photography in Corsica, France and Europe
I am a Switzerland-based destination wedding photographer, photographing weddings throughout Switzerland, France and across Europe.
My approach combines documentary storytelling with an editorial eye, with a particular love for celebrations where the destination itself is part of the story. I photograph the big moments, certainly, but also the landscape, architecture, atmosphere, movement and smaller interactions that allow you to remember what being there actually felt like.
